Who We Are
The current initiative to restore the Clinton-Baker Pinetum was set up by our Curator, Dr Edward Eastwood, in 1994. His aim was to restore the Pinetum to its former international status and to use it as the focus for a community project.
Initially just a small number of interested people at work parties, the group grew through word of mouth, so that by 2000 a properly constituted Friends' Association could be formed. All officers and members of the Association are volunteers. The University of Hertfordshire provides us with an office on the Bayfordbury Campus, sheds in which we store our equipment and a dedicated part time assistant to the Curator. |
The bulk of our funding has come from a very generous grant by the Worshipful Company of Carpenters, a City of London livery company. We also raise money through membership subscriptions, social events, open days, visits and from various grants and donations.
What We Do
Our work has been mainly directed towards the replenishment and maintenance of the conifer collection, of the original landscape features and to encouraging wildlife, for the benefit of future generations. See the Volunteering page for more about how you can help. We are keen to see the Pinetum used as much as possible, especially in ways appropriate to it being owned by the University.

Membership and Benefits
By becoming a member of the friends of the Clinton-Baker Pinetum, you will not only be accessing the benefits of membership but also will be helping to improve and conserve this wonderful collection of trees.
Our work parties offer a chance for outdoor exercise to suit every level of skill or fitness in a sociable environment. The Pinetum is on private land but membership entitles you to visit the site whenever you want. Dogs are welcome in the Pinetum, but please keep them on a lead. |
Our activities in the Pinetum are supported by regular social events throughout the year. A snowdrop walk and summer barbecue are annual fixtures. We hold talks and demonstrations that have relevance to the Pinetum and we occasionally make external visits to places of interest.

You will receive our regular newsletters keeping you informed of the restoration progress and news of our social events.
